Tywin

The more time I spend on this Earth, the better I feel like I connect with Tywin Lannister.

I think Tywin is obsessed with legacy, image and power. It’s a consequence of witnessing and enduring his father’s rule at Casterly Rock. His father was being played for a fool by his own subjects, so I think Tywin is afraid of that happening to him. He over-corrects and makes the opposite mistakes. He’s too serious, cold and humorless.

I think Tywin has a good sense of right and wrong in the context of Westeros, similar to that of Ned. That’s why his Dozen-men-at-dinner philosophy comes across to me like something Tywin doesn’t actually believe. It seems like a weak attempt to justify doing what’s easy rather than what’s right. The right way forward is to win your wars in battle rather than at dinner, and I think that’s obvious to Tywin too. He’s taking liberties with his conscience.
